Edo kiriko is traditional glasswork with detailed etching
and engraving on the glass surface using metal plates
and grindstones. Kiriko has a double-layered structure
of transparent and colored glass. After drawing rough
lines for the design with“sumitsuke”, the glass is
etched at once. “Rough etching” etches basic lines
and surfaces, followed by “san-ban kake”, “ishi kake”
and “polishing” to improve precision. The technique
called “etching” is a basic technique that is essential
for metallic mold production. Engineers design metal
molds based on CAD plans. By hearing the sound and
feeling the resistance, they move the
polishing machines little by little.
-Everything is for the production of beautiful parts.
